General assembly 2012
19.03.2012 - 23.03.2012
All members, both candidates, supervisors and evaluation board are welcome to join the 2012 general assembly. As last time, this is planned to take place on the coastal steamer (Hurtigruten).
We will leave from Bergen Monday March 19 at 22.30 and arrive Tromsø Friday March 23 at 14.30.
All participating PhD candidates need to provide a project title and abstract. The program will contain the speed collaboration, poster sessions, lectures on scientific topics and presentation techniques by the evaluation board, and this year you will also have a great opportunity to hone your presentation skills in a fun way through the Research Grand Prix. The trip will also include opportunites for sigthseeing or free time when ashore. The best poster presentation will be honored with a Diploma and the winner of Research Grand Prix will be awarded a prize.
The boat trip will be organized by ResClim, but flight tickets to Bergen and from Tromsø should be bought indiviually (ResClim will cover the costs). So if you want to spend extra time in Bergen or Tromsø, this will be up to you.
For the registration at this stage, beside providing a project title and abstract for your poster, you need to indicate if you have any special needs regarding food (allergies, vegetarian etc. - Hurtigruten needs to know well in advance)
The registration is binding!
Registration is closed.
Research Grand Prix
Research Grand Prix is a fun and unserious contest where scientists get four minutes on stage to present their work and feedback on their performance. The main idea of the concept is to train scientists in how to tell their research story in an engaging and entertaining way without compromising the scientific content. The participants in the contest will get lectures on storytelling and presentation techniques, and some personal mentoring in delivery and stage presence before the contest. The contest will be held on the last night on the cruise, and the presentations will be judged by a panel of three (focusing on the scientific content, on the popular-science angle, and on stage-presence). The best presentation will be voted for both by the panel and the audience. The lecturer and mentor during the cruise will be Elina Halttunen, the winner of the Research Grand Prix of University of Tromsø (UiT) in 2011, who just earned her PhD and is working now full time with research communication and outreach at UiT.
