Winter School on Sea Ice Variability in the Arctic

The first Winter School on Sea Ice Variability in the Arctic - Past and Present Conditions, will take place at the University of Tromsø, on March 31st - April 4th, 2014. The focus will be on the geological and geophysical aspects of sea-ice in the Arctic with lectures on reconstructions of past sea ice extent, oceanography, basic sea ice physics, sea ice/ocean/air interactions and remote sensing. In addition, specific case studies on cutting edge sea ice related topics will be presented.
Students will have to participate in hands-on exercises as well as presenting a poster on their own research.
Some confirmed lecturers include: Simon Belt, Tore Furevik, Nalân Koç.
The Winter School is a collaboration between the newly established Center of Excellence for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate (CAGE, http://cage.uit.no/) and the National Research School in Climate Dynamics (ResClim, ).

The workload will be equivalent to 3 ECTS plus 2 for a written report (optional).
